Coconut shell activated carbon is a high-performance adsorbent made from coconut shells as the main raw material through a series of complex physical and chemical processing techniques. Its appearance is usually black granular or powdered, with a highly developed internal pore structure. These pores are intertwined, forming a huge specific surface area, enabling it to effectively adsorb various substances and play a key adsorption role in many fields.
Specific parameters
Iodine value: The iodine value of coconut shell activated carbon is relatively high, generally ranging from 800 - 1200mg/g. The iodine value is an important indicator to measure the adsorption capacity of activated carbon for small molecular substances. A high iodine value indicates that coconut shell activated carbon has a strong adsorption capacity for small molecular organic compounds such as benzene, toluene, xylene, as well as iodine 单质 (iodine element) and other substances.
Particle size: If it is granular, its particle size is usually about 0.5 - 2.0mm, with uniform particles, which is convenient for filling and using in adsorption equipment; if it is powdered, most of it can pass through 80 - 200 mesh sieves (i.e., particle size less than 0.18 - 0.075mm). The fine particle size helps to better disperse in liquids or gases, increase the contact area with adsorbates, and improve adsorption efficiency.
Specific surface area: The specific surface area is large, usually ranging from 1000 - 1500m²/g. The vast specific surface area provides abundant sites for adsorption, enabling it to adsorb a large number of impurities, pigments, odorous substances, and harmful gases, playing a key role in the adsorption process.
pH value: The pH value range is roughly between 4 - 10, which makes coconut shell activated carbon not cause severe interference to the acid-base environment of the adsorbed substances in most adsorption application scenarios, and can stably exert its adsorption effect.
Strength (applicable to granular type): For granular coconut shell activated carbon, its mechanical strength is good, and the compressive strength can generally reach more than 80% - 95%. During use, such as being impacted by air flow or liquid flow in the adsorption tower, it is not easy to break, can maintain a good granular form, and ensure the stability of the adsorption process.
