1. arget pollutants— COD/BOD removal, heavy metals, color, or specific toxic organics (each favors a different pore size and feedstock)
2. Pore size distribution— micropores trap small molecules; meso/macropores handle larger organics and give faster kinetics
3. System design — fixed-bed column (needs GAC) vs. direct dosing (PAC)
4. Flow rate and volume — determines whether regeneration economics favor GAC
