How to choose a suitable activated carbon

What is the difference between general-purpose activated carbon and special-purpose activated carbon? How should I choose?

  1. What is the difference between general-purpose activated carbon and special-purpose activated carbon? How should I choose?
The core difference between the two lies in their functionality and applicable scenarios, with specific comparisons as follows:
General-purpose activated carbon: Made from raw materials such as wood chips, coal, and ordinary fruit shells, it undergoes only basic processes of carbonization and activation. Its pore structure has no directional design, and it focuses on "broad-spectrum adsorption" with a relatively low price. It is suitable for ordinary scenarios such as preliminary water purification and rough air filtration.
Special-purpose activated carbon: Uses high-quality base materials such as coconut shells and pitch-based carbon fibers, with additional processes like modification and compounding. It can directionally regulate the pore structure or introduce specific functional groups/active substances, possessing properties such as specific adsorption, acid and alkali resistance, high-temperature resistance, etc. Its price is higher than that of general-purpose activated carbon. It is suitable for high-end scenarios such as pharmaceutical decolorization, precise VOCs treatment, and lithium battery electrode materials.
